About The College
Debre Tabor University is one of the third-generation universities established in 2008. Accordingly, the College of Natural and Computational Sciences (CNCS), formerly called Faculty Natural and Computational Sciences, was one of the founding faculties at the inception of Debre Tabor University.
At the establishment, the faculty had only 4 undergraduate fields of study, namely, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Since then, the faculty has registered several achievements, and there are vital landmarks in the history of the university. The college has developed curricula for several new fields of study and has shouldered the responsibilities of institutional management.
Currently, the college has six undergraduate departments (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Sport Sciences, and Statistics) and four M.Sc. programs (Botany, Zoology, Solid State Physics, and Mathematics). In addition, extension and summer programs in undergraduate and postgraduate programs are offered by most of the departments. Besides, the college members are engaged in research, various community services, and technology transfer activities. Thus, to reach the community and tackle the problems, in the College, problem-solving research activities, need-based community services, and enabling technology transfer are taking place. The college also generates income through continuing education and laboratory services.
College Administration
The structure of the College of Natural and Computational Sciences contained an office, under which three coordinating offices and six departments are actively functioning. The coordinating offices are the Education Development Center Coordinator, Research and Community Service and Graduate Program Coordinator, and Laboratory Coordinator. The six departments are biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, sport science, and statistics.
Academic Unit Council (AUC) and other bodies
The AUC is the highest body of the college for academic, research, technology transfer, and community service matters. Without prejudice to powers and responsibilities that may be conferred upon it by the Senate or the President, the AUC shall: set guidelines to facilitate the teaching-learning process; deliberate and decide upon all appointment and promotion cases presented to it through the DC; review grades and determine the academic status of students; perform such other functions relevant to the betterment of the teaching-learning process and the promotion of research; and serve the community in the college.
