
The Ethiopian Comprehensive Universities Association held its inaugural conference at Bale Robe Mede Welabu University
In his opening address, Dr. Anegagren Gashaw, President of Debre Tabor University and Chairman of the Comprehensive Universities Association, articulated that, in accordance with the mission statement of the universities outlined by the Ministry of Education, 21 institutions have been designated as comprehensive universities. He further emphasized that each of these universities would undergo individual assessment to ensure the successful realization of their respective missions.
Dr. Anegagren also highlighted the establishment of the Comprehensive Universities Association as a pivotal platform for fostering joint cooperation among member institutions. He expressed gratitude to the presidents of the member universities for their presence at the inaugural meeting, acknowledging their commitment to collaborative growth and mutual support.
Moreover, the association officially affirmed its formation during the conference held at Mede Welabu University, with signatures serving as a testament to its establishment. Attendees engaged in thoughtful discussions centered on the implementation of reform initiatives and the sharing of best practices, paving the way for a more unified and progressive higher education system.
As the first host of this historic event, Dr. Ahmed Kelil, President of Mede Welabu University, extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegates. He was joined by Ato Dino Amin, Mayor of Robe—a renowned tourist destination—as well as local elders and mothers, whose warm hospitality added a sense of community and pride to the occasion.
The conference stands as a promising beginning for the Ethiopian Comprehensive Universities Association, setting the stage for continued cooperation and the collective pursuit of academic excellence.
