
Debre Tabor University Honors the 129th Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa
Debre Tabor University held a grand celebration marking the 129th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa, a triumph that remains an eternal beacon of African resilience and unity. Dr. Anegagregn Gashaw, President of the University, extended a heartfelt welcome to all attendees, emphasizing that Adwa was not merely a military victory but a testament to unyielding commitment, indomitable resilience, and profound patriotism.
The event was graced by Patriot Ambachew Molla, Chairman of the South Gondar Zone Patriots Association, who took the audience on a poetic journey through history, vividly recounting the events from the infamous Treaty of Wuchale to the climactic battlefield of Adwa. His stirring verses painted a picture of the valor and sacrifice that forged Ethiopia’s victory against colonial subjugation.
Adding academic depth to the occasion, Mr. Nigus Mulu, a scholar from the Department of History and Heritage Management, presented a meticulously researched paper, shedding light on lesser-known aspects of the battle’s historical significance. Likewise, Mr. Destaw Bayabil of the Guna-Tana Research Center enriched the discourse with an eloquent essay, reflecting on Adwa’s enduring legacy in shaping Ethiopian identity.
The celebration rekindled a collective reverence for Ethiopia’s heroic past, inspiring the present generation to uphold the ideals of unity and perseverance.
